Trust me—you really don’t know what you’re missing.

One reason we have peak power demands during winter is that many folks turn on electric stoves and appliances in the evening. You can help eliminate the need to buy a lot of expensive power from out of state by simply not using these in the evening.
Prepare meals that can be cooked or reheated in a microwave in the evening. Microwave ovens use only a quarter of the energy—or less—for the same cooking. The same is true for dishwashers. Load the dishwasher but don’t turn it on until you go to bed. That is after the peak power time that usually runs from 4 to 8 in the evening. Clothes dryers are very big energy users. Don’t turn them on during the peak power times. Hang up heavy clothes to dry on a line in the bathroom while you’re at work. You can spin dry them in the dryer without heat before hanging them up. That doesn’t take much energy. You’ll save a lot. You’re paying to keep the house warm. Why not let it dry some clothes for you? This will also add a little moisture to the air in the house and your comfort in wintertime when the humidity is usually low in heated homes. Why pay twice to dry the clothes?
