The Dr. Bill FAQ

How do I put out a grease fire?

According to a fire fighter that called in to answer another caller’s question, the first method to try (assuming the fire is in a pan on the stove) is to put a lid on the fire, thus depriving it of oxygen. If that doesn’t work, then you can try smothering it with baking soda.

Do not try any other powders in your kitchen, especially flour, since it is flammable, and even more so when its dust is airborne.
